Becoming The Dalai Lama
July 6, 1935, Lhamo Thondup was one of the seventeen children born into his Tibetan farming family in the small village of Taktser. He was one of the seven children in the family that survived the early stages of their life, and was soon recognized to be the new Dalai Lama. Lhamo was born two years after the 13th Dalai Lama passed away, and soon after the death of the 13th Dalai Lama, a search party sent by the Tibetan government was sent to find the new incarnation of the Dalai Lama. Two years later they found Lhamo, and began testing him with artifacts used by previous Dalai Lamas. The artifacts were laid out with various other random items, and like the previous Dalai Lamas, Lhamo only recognized the artifacts. He was then taken to the Potala Palace and was named the new spiritual leader of Tibet and was named the 14th Dalai Lama |
